Social & Cultural Contributions

Panchakshara Gawai achieved rare expertise in both Hindustani and Carnatic classical traditions. Training under legendary masters like Mysore Vidwan Venkataramanayya, Ustad Abdul Vahid Khan (Kirana Gharana), and Pandit Nilakant Bua Alurmath, he mastered vocal singing and instruments such as harmonium, tabla, violin, and sarangi. To educate underprovided visually impaired youth, he started a mobile music school, traveling from village to village.

Divine Legacy & Teachings

In 1942, yielding to the requests of devotees and supported by the philanthropist Basarigidad Veerappa who donated land in Gadag, he established the permanent campus of "Shree Veereshwara Punyashrama". The ashram was dedicated to housing and training visually impaired and orphaned boys free of charge, with music as their livelihood. He passed away on June 11, 1944. His legacy was inherited by his greatest disciple, Pt. Puttaraj Gawai, who raised the ashram to legendary stature.
